Why can't I submit my idea?
There are two places where submitting can stop: the Contribute button on the collection, and the submit button at the bottom of the form. Hover over a grey button to see why it is disabled. This article explains each message and what to do.
The Contribute button is grey
The collection managers decide who can contribute to a collection. When you are not allowed to, the Contribute button is greyed out. Hover over it to see the reason.

The submit button in the form is grey
If you have opened the form but the button at the bottom stays grey, one or more required questions still need an answer. Required questions are marked with an asterisk.
- Hover over the grey button.
- Read the message Answer the required questions first, followed by the names of the questions you have missed.
- Answer those questions. The button becomes active once every required question is answered.
A text question counts as answered when it is not blank. An options question counts when you have picked at least one option. A file question counts when you have added at least one file.
“This collection has no questions to answer yet”
The collection managers have not set up the form yet, so there is nothing to fill in. Try again later, or let a collection manager know.
Other reasons
- You opened a share link and are not signed in. Clicking Contribute asks you to sign in first, unless the collection allows contributing without signing in. See Submitting an idea through a share link.
- You are a guest. Guests can submit ideas, under their own name, to collections shared with them. The same rules apply as for members: if the collection is closed or open only to its managers, the Contribute button is grey. Guests can’t like, vote or comment.
If submitting fails
If you click submit and see Failed to submit contribution, your idea was not saved. Try again in a moment. If it keeps failing, contact your Admin or Hives support at help@hives.co.
If you see Your contribution was saved, but some files failed to upload, your idea is saved but some files are missing. Open your idea to check which files arrived. See Adding files to an idea for how to add or replace files.
