Submitting an idea through a share link
Collection managers can share a collection with a link or a QR code. Anyone with the link can look at the collection. Whether you can submit an idea, and whether your name is attached to it, depends on whether you are a member of the hive and on the collection’s settings.
A hive is your organisation’s space in Hives. Members are the people who belong to it.
What you see on a share link
When you open a share link or scan its QR code, you see:
- the collection’s cover, title and description
- the ideas that every member of the hive could see. Hidden ideas are not shown.
- for each idea, its title, date, step and the number of comments and reactions
Click an idea to read it. This view is read-only. You can’t comment, like, vote or change anything. Comments, reactions and managing stay with signed-in members.
You only see this one collection, nothing else from the hive.
If you are a member of the hive
Sign in and submit as normal. Your idea is linked to you, just as if you had opened the collection inside Hives.
- Open the share link.
- Click Contribute. If you are not signed in yet, Hives asks you to sign in first.
- Fill in the form and submit.
The collection’s normal rules still apply. If the collection is closed or only open to its managers, you can’t submit. See Why can’t I submit my idea?
If you are not a member
You can submit through the link only if the collection managers have turned on Allow contributing without signing in and the collection is open to everyone with access (not closed, and not only open to its managers). In that case:
- Open the share link.
- Click Contribute.
- Fill in the form and submit. You don’t need an account.
Your idea is saved anonymously. Nothing links it to you, even if you happen to be signed in to Hives with another account. This also applies to guests (people invited to see only certain things in a hive) who use the share link. A guest who wants their name on the idea can submit from inside Hives instead, if the collection has been shared with them.
Because the idea is anonymous, you can’t edit or delete it afterwards, and you won’t get notifications about it.
If the collection does not allow contributing without signing in, clicking Contribute asks you to sign in. If you are signed in but not a member of the hive, the button stays grey.
No file uploads on the share link
The form on a share link never shows file upload questions, for anyone. If you are a member and want to add files, open the collection inside Hives instead, or add the files to your idea afterwards. See Adding files to an idea.
After you submit
You see the same thank-you message and confetti as inside Hives. Your idea goes to the collection’s Inbox, where the collection managers pick it up.
Opening a share link or submitting through it never makes you a member of the hive.
Common questions
The link has stopped working. Why? Collection managers can switch a share link off. If they switch it on again, Hives creates a new link, so the old link and old QR codes stop working. Ask the person who shared it for the new link.
Can I see what happens to my idea later? Only if you submitted as a signed-in member. Anonymous ideas can’t be followed. Ideas that every member can see are still listed on the share link, so you may find yours there.
