What happens after you submit an idea
Your idea lands in the collection’s Inbox. The collection managers look at new ideas there and move them through the collection’s steps, such as review, testing or implementation. You can follow your idea through its step label and through notifications, and find all your ideas on your profile.
The Inbox
Every new idea starts in the Inbox. Think of it as the in-tray of the collection. The collection managers read new ideas here and decide what happens next.
While your idea is in the Inbox:
- other members can usually see it, like it and comment on it
- you can still edit your answers
- you can still delete it yourself. See How to edit or delete your idea.
Some collections hide ideas while they are in the Inbox. Then only you, the collection managers and a few others see your idea until it moves on. See Hidden ideas, hidden names and anonymous collections.
Steps and step labels
Steps are the stages an idea goes through after the Inbox. Each collection has its own steps, chosen by its managers. Some collections have no steps at all.
You can see where an idea is in two places:
- On the idea in the collection: a coloured bar at the bottom shows the step name. Ideas in the Inbox have no bar.
- Inside the idea: a label at the top shows the step name, or Inbox.
Hover over the step label, or tap it on a phone, to read the step’s description if the managers wrote one. It often explains what happens at that step.
Only collection managers, Admins and people assigned to the idea can move it between steps. To learn how, see How to move an idea to another step.
Notifications you get
Open notifications from your profile picture > Notifications.
| What happens | Notification in Hives | |
|---|---|---|
| Your idea moves to another step | Yes: “{your idea} is now {step}” | No |
| Someone comments on your idea | Yes | Yes |
| Someone replies to your comment | Yes | Yes |
| Someone is assigned to your idea | No | No |
You don’t get a notification when you submit, only the thank-you message. Collection managers may also have set up automatic comments that are posted when your idea arrives at a step. You see these as a notification in Hives, without an email.
There are no notification settings, so you can’t switch these emails off. See Notifications and emails from Hives.
Find your ideas again
- Click your profile picture in the top bar.
- Click Profile.
- Open the Contributions tab. It lists every idea in this hive where you are listed as a contributor.
Click an idea to open it. If you have been made responsible for ideas, you find those under Assigned to.
Ideas you submitted to an anonymous collection are not listed, because they are not linked to you.
Share a link to your idea
- Open your idea.
- Click ⋯ (More actions).
- Click Copy link. You see Link copied to clipboard.
Paste the link wherever you like. People who open it see the idea only if they have access to it.
Common questions
My idea hasn’t moved for a while. What should I do? Collection managers decide when ideas move on. Add a comment to your idea to ask about progress.
Can I move my idea to another step myself? No, unless you are also a collection manager or assigned to the idea.
Why was my idea moved back to the Inbox? Collection managers can move an idea back to the Inbox. Ideas also go back there when the managers change or remove the collection’s steps. Ask a collection manager if you are unsure why.
