Managing an idea: the Manage tab

When you manage a collection, every idea in it opens with two tabs at the top: View and Manage. View shows the idea the way members see it. Manage adds the tools you need to take the idea forward: moving it between steps, assigning people, answering step questions and more.

Who can do this: collection managers (including managers of the folder the collection sits in) and Admins. The Manager role on its own does not give access to ideas in collections you don’t manage.

A collection can call its items ideas, feedback, posts, insights, solutions or suggestions. This article says “ideas” for all of them.

Open the Manage tab

  1. Open the collection.
  2. Click an idea to open it.
  3. Click Manage at the top of the idea.

If you opened the idea from the collection’s Manage view, it opens on the Manage tab straight away.

You can also open an idea from a notification, an email or a copied link. Copy an idea’s link from ⋯ (More actions) > Copy link.

What the View tab shows

The View tab is what everyone who can see the idea gets:

  • the step label (or Inbox) and a link to the collection
  • the title, and an eye icon if the idea is hidden from ordinary members
  • the contributors, with the date
  • the Like or Vote button and the ⋯ menu
  • the reviewer box, if the current step uses a reviewer
  • for panel members and the assigned reviewer, the section for the step the idea is in, with its questions. See Rating ideas and answering step questions.
  • the answers to the submission form that the viewer is allowed to read
  • the comments

The comments are on both tabs. As a collection manager, you also choose who can read each comment you post. See Choosing who sees a comment, and moderating comments.

The ⋯ menu

The ⋯ (More actions) menu has:

  • Copy link, to share a direct link to the idea
  • Edit, which opens Edit contribution. You can change every answer on the submission form, at any time. Files are changed on the idea itself, under their question. You can also tick or untick Hide from other members here, whatever the collection’s hidden ideas setting.
  • Move to another collection (Manage tab)
  • Delete, to remove the idea for good

See Hiding, unhiding and deleting ideas.

What you see that members don’t

As a collection manager or Admin you can:

  • see every idea in the collection, including hidden ones
  • read the answers to every question, including questions only managers can see
  • read every comment, whatever its visibility

Note: On collections with Hide contributor names turned on, you don’t see who submitted an idea either. Only the person who submitted it sees their name. On collections that save ideas anonymously, nobody does.
