Moving an idea to another collection

If an idea was submitted to the wrong collection, you can move it with ⋯ > Move to another collection in the idea’s Manage tab. The idea lands in the other collection’s Inbox. Its people, comments and reactions come with it, but all its answers are deleted.

Who can do this: Admins, and people who manage both collections. You can only move ideas between collections in the same hive.

What is kept and what is deleted

Kept Deleted for good
The idea itself Every answer, including the answers to the title and description questions
The person who submitted it and its contributors Files given as answers, such as files on the Attachment question
Its assignees The current reviewer assignment
Comments
Reactions (likes or votes)

Completed reviews stay in the idea’s history.

Because the title and description answers are deleted, an idea can lose its title and text in the move, unless someone has set them by hand with Edit title and text. Copy anything you want to keep before you move the idea, for example into a comment.

Note: If the destination collection saves contributions anonymously, the link between the idea and the people who submitted it is removed for good. Moving the idea on again does not bring it back.

Move the idea

  1. Open the idea.
  2. Click the Manage tab.
  3. Click ⋯ (More actions) > Move to another collection.
  4. Under Destination collection, choose where the idea should go.
  5. Read the warning. It lists exactly what will be deleted for this idea, for example “3 answers” or “1 file given as an answer”. If nothing will be lost, the warning says so.
  6. Tick I understand that this cannot be undone.
  7. Click Move card. You see The card was moved.

The idea now sits in the destination collection’s Inbox. Nobody is notified about the move, so let the submitter know if it matters to them.

If you pick a collection you don’t manage, the move is refused. Ask an Admin or a manager of that collection to add you as a collection manager, or to move the idea for you.

After the move

  • The idea follows the destination collection’s settings, steps and form from now on.
  • The destination’s collection managers can see and manage it.
  • People who could see the old collection but not the new one can no longer open the idea.
