Assigning people to an idea and adding contributors
Assignees are the people responsible for taking an idea forward. Contributors are the idea’s authors: the person who submitted it, plus anyone you add as a co-author. Collection managers and Admins add both from the top of the idea.
Who can do this: collection managers and Admins.
Assign people to an idea
- Open the idea.
- At the top of the idea, click Assign. If someone is already assigned, it shows Assigned to and their name instead.
- In the Assignees window, search for the people you want and add them. Remove anyone who should no longer be assigned.
- Click Save.
You can assign members, Managers and Admins of the hive. You can’t assign guests.
New assignees get a notification in Hives saying You have been assigned to the idea, and an email headed You’ve been assigned with a button to open the idea. You are not notified if you assign yourself.
What assignees can do
| Assignees can | Assignees can’t |
|---|---|
| See the idea, even if it is hidden from other members | Delete the idea |
| Move the idea between steps of the same collection | Change contributors or the hidden setting |
| Edit the idea’s title and text | Read comments meant only for idea authors or collection managers |
| Get notifications and emails about new comments | Assign other people |
To edit the title and text, an assignee opens ⋯ (More actions) > Edit, which opens Edit title and text. Leave a field empty to go back to the text from the idea’s answers.
Assignees also get a reminder email every time the idea has stayed in a step for the step’s number of Reminder days. Their profile lists their ideas under Assigned to.
Add or remove contributors
Contributors are co-authors. Add people who helped come up with the idea, so they can edit it and follow it.
- Open the idea and go to the Manage tab.
- Click the contributor avatars, next to the date.
- In the Contributors window, click Add/Remove.
- Search for people and add them, or remove people.
- Click Save.
People are not notified when you add them as contributors.
What contributors can do
Contributors can:
- see the idea, even if it is hidden from other members
- edit the answers that were already given in the idea
- add, replace or remove files on the idea’s file questions
- read answers and comments meant for the idea’s authors
- get notifications when the idea moves step or gets comments
Contributors can’t move the idea, assign people, change contributors or change the hidden setting. Only the person who originally submitted the idea can delete it, and only while it is in the Inbox.
Members who don’t manage the collection can see the list of contributors, but can’t change it. On collections that hide contributor names, the list is not shown.
