Working inside a folder
Inside a folder you can create new collections, surveys and subfolders, move existing ones in, and upload files. Everything is sorted into sections so you can find it quickly.
Who can do this: Admins and the folder’s managers. Creating new collections, surveys and subfolders also needs the Admin or Manager role.
Find your way around
When you open a folder you see:
- Breadcrumbs at the top, such as Folders > Projects > 2026. Click any part to go back up.
- The folder’s name, with an Archived badge if it’s archived.
- Access, with the pictures of the folder’s managers. See Giving people access to a folder (folder managers).
- The ⋮ menu to rename, move, archive or delete the folder. See Moving, archiving and deleting folders.
- The Add button.
Add content
Click Add to open a menu with four options:
| Option | Choices | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Subfolder | New or Import | Create a subfolder, or move an existing folder in as a subfolder. |
| Collection | New or Import | Create a collection in this folder, or move an existing collection here. |
| Survey | New or Import | Create a survey in this folder, or move an existing survey here. |
| Attachment | Upload files from your computer. |
Create something new
- Click Add.
- Choose Subfolder, Collection or Survey, then New.
- Fill in the dialog and save.
The new item goes straight into this folder. A new collection or survey still needs to be put on a page before members can see it. See Adding a collection or survey to a page.
Move an existing item in
Import moves something that already exists in your hive into this folder. It doesn’t upload a file and it doesn’t make a copy.
- Click Add.
- Choose Subfolder, Collection or Survey, then Import.
- Start typing the name and pick the item from the list.
The item leaves its old folder (or Uncategorized) and appears here. You can only move items you manage, or any item if you’re an Admin.
Good to know: Moving a collection into a folder makes the folder’s managers collection managers of it. Check who manages the folder before you move something sensitive into it.
Add and manage attachments
Attachments are files kept in the folder, such as briefs, templates or reports.
- Click Add > Attachment.
- Choose the files to upload.
In the Attachments section you can rename or delete each file. Everyone who can see the folder can open its attachments. Only Admins and the folder’s own managers can add, rename or delete them.
Sections in a folder
The folder’s content is split into sections. Each one shows a count and only appears when it has something in it:
- Subfolders
- Collections
- Surveys
- Attachments
An empty folder says “No content in this folder yet”.
Common questions
Can I import ideas from a spreadsheet into a folder? No. Import only moves existing collections, surveys or folders of your hive into this folder.
Why can’t I create a subfolder here? Creating folders needs the Admin or Manager role. If you don’t have one, ask an Admin.
