Hive settings: access, sign-in and the login page

Your hive’s settings live in Menu > Admin > Hive. Here you choose who can join, which sign-in methods people can use, and what your login page says. Changes take effect for everyone as soon as you save.

Who can do this: Admins. Managers don’t see the Hive card.

Open the hive settings

  1. Click Menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Choose Admin.
  3. Click the Hive card.

The settings have three tabs:

Tab What’s on it
Access Who can join, Public access and Login (the login page message and sign-in methods).
Onboarding Group selection and Consent. See Asking new members for their group and consent.
Contribution Moderation. See below.

Saving your changes

Changes are not saved as you go. As soon as you change something, a bar appears at the bottom with Unsaved changes, Cancel and Save. All three tabs share this bar, so one Save saves everything you changed. You’ll see “Hive updated successfully” when it’s done.

Nobody is notified when you change these settings.

Who can join

The Who can join card decides how people who are not yet members can get in: Invite only, Anyone can join or Allowed email domains only. With Allowed email domains only, you also add your Allowed domains here.

Existing members can always sign in, whatever you choose. Read the full guide: Choosing who can join your hive.

Public access

The Public access card contains the External sharing switch: “Allow managers to share collections outside of your organization with links, QR-codes, and email invites”. It is on by default.

  • On: managers can share collections with people outside your organisation using links, QR codes and email invites.
  • Off: managers can’t share collections outside your organisation in these ways.

See Sharing a collection with a link or QR code.

Login page message

In the Login card, Guide is a message shown on your hive’s sign-in page, above the sign-in form. Use it to help people choose the right sign-in method. For example:

“Sign in with Microsoft using your work account. If that doesn’t work, enter your work email address and we’ll send you a code.”

You can format the text, for example with bold and links.

Note: anyone can see the login page message, including people who are not signed in. Don’t put anything confidential in it.

Sign-in methods

Under Options in the Login card, turn on the methods people can use on your hive’s sign-in page:

Switch What people see on your sign-in page
Sign in with Google A Google button. See Setting up sign-in with Google.
Sign in with Microsoft A Microsoft button. See Setting up sign-in with Microsoft.
Email code An Email field. Hives emails a 6-digit code that is valid for 10 minutes.

Turn on at least one. If all three are off, your sign-in page shows only your logo and message, and nobody can sign in or join through it.

Turning a method off stops people using it on your hive’s sign-in page. Existing members can still sign in to their account on the general Hives sign-in page and open your hive from there.

Which methods are on doesn’t decide who can join. That is set by Who can join.

Good to know: single sign-on (SAML) can be set up for your organisation on request. Contact your contact person at Hives.co to arrange it.

Contribution tab

The Contribution tab has the Language filter, in the Moderation card.

Language filter

The Language filter switch “Filters out inappropriate language in submitted content, using Hives.co’s AI”. When it is on, Hives’ AI filters out inappropriate language in the ideas and comments people submit. It is off by default.

  1. Open the Contribution tab.
  2. In the Moderation card, turn on Language filter.
  3. Click Save.

Idea covers

The first image someone uploads in the submission form becomes the idea’s cover. Ideas without an image are shown without a cover.

Things you can’t change here

Some settings are set up by Hives, not in the app:

  • your hive’s name, web address, logo and brand colour;
  • whether AI features, including Ida, are on.

Contact help@hives.co to change them. See Logo, colours, hive name and AI features.

The Home page cover, welcome text and layout are edited on the Home page itself. See How to edit the Home page.
