Who can see, manage and answer a survey
Survey managers edit a survey, share it and see its results. Only Admins can add or remove them. Members see a survey through the page it is on, and anyone with the share link can answer it. Nobody can see who gave which answer.
Survey managers
A survey manager is someone named in the survey’s Managers list. It is a role for one survey only. It is not the same as the Manager role in your hive: a Manager is not automatically a survey manager, and a survey manager does not need the Manager role.
The person who creates a survey becomes a survey manager automatically.
Add or remove survey managers
Who can do this: Admins.
- Open the survey and go to the Share tab.
- In the Managers card, click Edit managers.
- Add or remove people, then save.
Survey managers must be active members of your hive. Guests cannot be survey managers.
If the list is empty, it shows “No managers yet”. Admins can always manage every survey.
What survey managers can do
- Change the survey’s name, folder, page and introduction.
- Add, edit, reorder and delete questions.
- Turn the share link, results link and preview link on and off, and copy them.
- See results, export answers and create AI summaries.
Survey managers cannot create or delete surveys (unless they are also an Admin or Manager) or change who the survey managers are (unless they are an Admin). See Changing a survey’s name, folder and introduction for how to delete a survey.
Who can see a survey
| Who | What they see |
|---|---|
| Admins | Every survey in the hive. |
| Survey managers | Their surveys, wherever they are. |
| Folder managers | Surveys in their folders. They can see them but not edit them or see results. |
| Members, including Managers who are not survey managers | Only surveys on a published page they can see. |
| Guests | Only surveys shared with them, for example through the share link. |
| Anyone with the share link | The survey’s questions, so they can answer. Not the results. |
| Anyone with the results link | The results, without any names. |
A survey that is on no page can only be reached by its survey managers, Admins, its folder’s managers, or through the share link. See Sharing a survey.
Who can answer a survey
- Members who can see the survey on a page. They answer inside Hives.
- Anyone with the share link or QR code while the link is on, signed in or not.
See Answering a survey.
Who can see results
Only survey managers and Admins see the Results tab and can export answers. Anyone else can see results only if you turn on the results link and share it with them. See Survey results, results link, export and AI summaries.
Answers are always anonymous
Every survey in Hives is anonymous. There is no setting to change this.
- Results, exports and AI summaries never show who answered.
- Admins cannot see who answered either.
- The export has no names, emails, dates or IDs, and rows are shuffled.

Common questions
Why can’t a colleague see my survey? Check that the survey is on a page, that the page is published, and that the page’s audience includes them. Or send them the share link.
I’m a Manager. Why can’t I see the results of a survey? The Manager role does not include survey results. Ask an Admin to add you as a survey manager.
