Changing a survey's name, folder and introduction

A survey has an internal name and folder, which you change with the three-dot menu > Edit, and an introduction, which you edit on the Build tab. The introduction is what respondents see before they start.

Who can do this: Survey managers and Admins.

Name and introduction: what is the difference?

Who sees it Where to change it
Name You and other managers, in folders, lists and search. Three-dot menu > Edit
Introduction (title, cover, description) Respondents, on the start screen. Also on the survey’s card on a page and at the top of the shared results. Build tab > Introduction > Edit

If the introduction has no title, respondents see the survey’s name instead.

Change the name or folder

  1. Open the survey.
  2. Click the three-dot menu at the top of the page, next to the survey’s name.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. Change the Name if needed. Use up to 100 characters.
  5. To move the survey, pick another folder in the Folder field. It shows the survey’s current folder. If you clear it, the survey moves to Uncategorized.
  6. Click Save.

You can also move a survey from the folder side, with Add > Survey > Import in the target folder. See Working inside a folder.

Edit the introduction

  1. Open the survey on the Build tab.
  2. Under the Introduction card, click Edit. The card switches to editing.
  3. Change any of these:
    • Title: up to 100 characters. Optional.
    • Cover image: upload an image or a video. It is shown wide across the top. You can also remove it.
    • Description: formatted text explaining what the survey is about, how long it takes and how you will use the answers.
  4. Click Save in the Unsaved changes bar at the bottom. Click Cancel to undo your changes.

The card shows the introduction exactly as respondents see it, so you can check it after saving. To walk through the whole survey as a respondent, use the preview link. See Sharing a survey.

Delete a survey

Who can do this: Admins, Managers who can see the survey, the survey’s managers and the managers of its folder.

  1. Open the survey.
  2. Click the three-dot menu at the top of the page, next to the survey’s name.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. In the Delete item? dialog, click Delete.

Deleting a survey permanently removes the survey, its questions, all its answers, its AI summaries and its links. This can’t be undone. If you want to keep the answers, export them first. See Survey results, results link, export and AI summaries.

Tips for a good introduction

  • Say who the survey is for and why you are asking.
  • Say how many questions there are or how long it takes.
  • Tell people their answers are anonymous. Nobody can see who answered what, not even Admins.

Common questions

Can I change the introduction after people have answered? Yes. The new introduction is shown to everyone who opens the survey from then on. Existing answers are not affected.

Can a survey be in more than one folder? No. A survey is in one folder at most, and on one page at most.
