How to sign in to Hives
You sign in to Hives with a 6-digit code sent to your email, or with your Google or Microsoft account. There is no password to remember. Your organisation decides which of these options you see.
Who can do this: everyone.
Go to your hive’s sign-in page
Each organisation has its own hive with its own address, for example app.hives.co/your-organisation. Open that address to see your hive’s sign-in page.
If you don’t know the address, ask a colleague or look for an invitation email from Hives. The button in the email takes you to the right place.
The sign-in page shows your organisation’s logo. It may also show a short message from your Admins, for example which email address to use. Below that you see the sign-in options your hive offers: an Email field, a Microsoft button, a Google button, or a mix of these.
Note: You can also sign in at
app.hives.co. That page signs you in and shows the hives you belong to or can join, but it doesn’t add you to a hive by itself. See Joining a hive and switching between hives.
Sign in with an email code
- Type your email address in the Email field. Use your work address unless you were told otherwise.
- Click Continue.
- Open the email called “Sign in to” followed by your hive’s name. It comes from noreply@hives.co.
- Type the 6-digit code into the boxes on the Enter your code screen.
The code is checked as soon as you type the last digit. There is no button to press. You then go straight to your hive, or to the page you were trying to open.
A few things to know about the code:
- It works for 10 minutes.
- If you ask for a new code, the old one stops working. Always use the newest email.
- You can ask for a new code with Resend code. It becomes available 60 seconds after the last one.
If the code doesn’t arrive or isn’t accepted, see Trouble signing in.
Sign in with Google or Microsoft
- Click Google or Microsoft on your hive’s sign-in page.
- Choose your account, or sign in to it if you’re asked to.
- You are taken back to Hives and signed in.
The first time you sign in this way, Hives copies your name and profile photo from your Google or Microsoft account. You can change them later in your profile, and later sign-ins won’t overwrite your changes.
With Microsoft, use the work account your own organisation gave you. Guest accounts from another organisation are not accepted.
Sign in inside Microsoft Teams
If your organisation has added Hives to Microsoft Teams, you can use Hives right inside the Teams app. The first time, Hives shows Sign in to Hives with Microsoft Teams. Click Continue and you are signed in with your Teams account. See Microsoft Teams and Hives.
The first time you sign in
Depending on how your hive is set up, Hives may ask you a few things before you start:
- What’s your name? Type your first and last name. This usually only appears when you sign in with an email code.
- Choose a group. Pick your team, department or site from the list.
- Terms. Read your organisation’s terms, tick I approve and click Save.
These windows can’t be skipped. You can change your name and group later. See Your profile, language and dark mode.
How long you stay signed in
You stay signed in for 30 days from the moment you signed in. After that, Hives asks you to sign in again, even if you’ve used it every day.
One sign-in opens every hive you belong to in that browser. You don’t need to sign in again when you switch hives.
Sign out
- Click your picture or initials in the top right corner.
- Click Sign out.
Signing out only affects the browser you’re using. If you’re signed in on another computer or phone, that session stays active until its 30 days are up. Always sign out on a shared computer.
Common questions
Do I need a password? No. Hives doesn’t use passwords. You get a new code each time, or use your Google or Microsoft account.
Which option should I use? Use the one your organisation recommends. If you use the same email address for the email code and for Google, both open the same Hives account.
Can I use my personal email address? Only if your hive allows it. Many hives only let in work email addresses. If you get “You don’t have access to this hive”, see Trouble signing in.
