Joining a hive and switching between hives
You join a hive by signing in on its sign-in page, as long as the hive lets you in. Your Hives page lists the hives you belong to and the ones you can join, so you can move between them without signing in again.
Who can do this: everyone.
How joining works
A hive is one organisation’s space in Hives. Each hive’s Admins decide who can join it. There are three options:
| Setting | Who can join |
|---|---|
| Invite only | Only people whose email address has been invited |
| Anyone can join | Anyone who signs in |
| Allowed email domains only | Anyone with an email address from the organisation’s domains, such as @yourcompany.com |
An invitation always lets you in, whichever option the hive uses. That includes an address outside the allowed domains.
People who join this way become Members. If you’re already a member, you can always sign in, whatever the setting, unless your access has been switched off.
Join your organisation’s hive
- Open your hive’s address, for example
app.hives.co/your-organisation. If you were invited by email, click Join followed by the hive’s name in the email instead. - Sign in with one of the options on the page. See How to sign in to Hives.
- Answer any questions Hives asks the first time, such as your name or group.
You’re now a member and land on the hive’s Home page.
If you see “You don’t have access to this hive”, your address isn’t allowed in yet. See Trouble signing in.
Your Hives page
The Hives page shows every hive connected to your account. To open it:
- Click your picture or initials in the top right corner.
- Click Hives.
You also land here when you sign in at app.hives.co rather than on a hive’s own page.
The page has two lists:
- Connected: the hives you belong to.
- Recommended: hives you’re allowed to join but haven’t joined yet. For example, a hive that accepts your email domain, or any hive that has invited your address.
If both lists are empty, you don’t have access to any hive yet. Ask your organisation for the address of its hive, or for an invitation.
Join a hive from the Recommended list
- On the Hives page, click the hive under Recommended.
- The hive’s sign-in page opens. Sign in with one of the options shown.
You need to sign in on that hive’s own page to join it. After that, it appears under Connected.
Switch between hives
- Click your picture or initials in the top right corner.
- Click Hives.
- Click the hive you want under Connected.
You don’t need to sign in again. One sign-in opens every hive you belong to.
Hives remembers the last hive you opened in each browser. Next time you go to app.hives.co, you go straight back to it.
What’s separate in each hive
Your name and profile picture are the same in every hive. Everything else belongs to one hive only:
- your role (Admin, Manager, Member or Guest),
- your group,
- your notifications,
- whether you’ve accepted that hive’s terms.
Common questions
Can I leave a hive? Not in the app. Email help@hives.co and ask to be removed from the hive.
How do I sign out from the Hives page? The Hives page has no sign-out button. Open one of your hives first, then click your picture and Sign out.
I was invited but I’m told I don’t have access. Make sure you sign in with exactly the email address the invitation was sent to. If it still fails, ask the person who invited you to check your address.
